What is in the Columbus senior care facility directory?

This directory lists all 116 Ohio Department of Health licensed assisted living communities (Residential Care Facilities) in the seven-county Columbus area, 24 of them registered for Alzheimer's care, with the license record, inspection history and state satisfaction survey results for each.

The assisted living and memory care listings are built from the state's own records rather than operator marketing, so they include every active license, large and small, across all seven counties and 11,344 licensed beds. Independent living, which Ohio does not license, and the skilled nursing communities on our older list stay verified against the operators' own websites.

Assisted living vs. memory care in Ohio: what each is and isn't

Assisted living (Ohio RCF)Memory care in an Ohio RCF
What it isA Residential Care Facility licensed by the Ohio Department of Health under ORC 3721 and OAC 3701-16, providing housing, supervision, personal care and help with medications.Dementia care delivered inside an RCF, usually in a secured special care unit, under the same RCF license.
What it isn'tA nursing home. Skilled nursing in an RCF is time-limited (generally up to 120 days a year unless the resident, physician and facility sign a written agreement to extend it).A separate ODH license. Ohio requires a written special care unit policy disclosure before admission (OAC 3701-16-07(F)(5)); only RCFs billing Medicaid's Assisted Living Waiver for memory care must also meet ODA's memory care standards (OAC 173-39-02.16).
How to verify itODH license record: status, State ID, licensed capacity, first-licensed date. The ODH services field (Alzheimer's disease) plus the facility's own written special care unit disclosure.
Who inspects itODH licensure and complaint surveys, published in Ohio's Long-Term Care Consumer Guide. The same ODH surveys; there is no separate memory care license inspection.

Where does the facility information come from?

License status, State ID, licensed capacity, operator and first-licensed date come from the Ohio Department of Health; inspection surveys and resident and family satisfaction results come from the Ohio Department of Aging's Long-Term Care Consumer Guide.

We do not add star ratings, reviews, amenity lists or prices for individual communities. Where the state has no published satisfaction score for a facility, we say so instead of filling the gap.
